Be a Nature Maestro!

SPEND A DAY IN THE COSTA RICAN RAINFOREST AND GLACIER BAY, ALASKA!

Students, parents, and educators, use an iPad and your imagination to create and share your unique experience in the Costa Rican Rainforest or Glacier Bay, Alaska. Immerse yourself in each of these great biomes while gaining a greater appreciation of Earth’s biodiversity and ecosystems.

Build audio-rich scenes called “Soundscapes,” using Christine Walker’s colorful illustrations, and Dennis Hysom’s animal and nature sounds recorded on location in Costa Rica and Glacier Bay, Alaska.

Compose, record, and share your unique Soundscape using melodies, rhythms, and a two minute background ambience loop. Shake your iPad to erase your Soundscape and start again.

For the best audio experience, including stereo and panning, wear your headphones or earbuds. Pinch and zoom an animal to change its volume. Move an animal to the right or left to adjust its stereo effect. Use Compose to time when animals will sound in your Soundscape. For more fun, Record with Narration to mimic animal sounds or narrate a story about your Soundscape :)

Press Tap to Travel to experience Rainforest Day, Rainforest Night, Glacier Bay, and Earth in Concert, a map of Earth onto which all these animals and their sounds can be composed for an "Earth in Concert.”

Play four visual and auditory memory matching games. Listen and learn as you match images to sounds. Raise the stakes and fine-tune your skills in the sound-to-sound round. Test your knowledge in the name-that-animal round and hear the common and scientific name pronunciations.

Expedition provides environmental education, fun facts, enrichment materials for classroom use, a full vocabulary glossary, curriculum-aligned activities, verbatim read-along audio, and informational help.

Email Dennis your most creative Soundscape ([email protected]). Each week he features a few on the naturemaestro.com website.
